Peru

Land of the Incas

Perhaps best known for its Lost City of Machu Picchu and other ancient ruins, Peru’s luscious landscapes, beautiful beaches, Andean peaks and Amazon rainforest combined with a burgeoning contemporary culture and gastronomy scene in its principal cities of Lima and Cuzco are also not to be missed.

Gastronomy & Historical culture

Peru maintains strong ties to the past with indigenous communities – particularly in the Sacred Valley – continuing to celebrate their traditional culture with rituals that date back centuries. Meanwhile, the larger cities have been preserved as an homage to the colonial era with grand mansions and towering cathedrals. No trip to Peru and particularly Lima, is complete without trying ceviche, the national dish – more often than not accompanied by a refreshing pisco sour.

Whilst Machu Picchu remains perennially popular with visitors, Peru has a host of other ruins that are a little quieter for visitors but nonetheless offer a glimpse into Inca history such as Kuelan to the north of the country, which is surrounded by a stunning cloud forest, or the Nazca Lines which are older still and best seen from the air.

Peru is steeped in legends, such as Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America and considered sacred by indigenous communities who believe it was the birthplace of the sun.
